I'm not completely sure how to do it so I figured I'd better ask, how do you Jtag this IRD (301.013) from the top, and do you need a special Jtag device to do it?

I have worked on many DP301.013s and use a simple Jtag device ... surprisingly have had better success than with a buffered one with the 013s... and keep the whole cabling (to my laptop LPT port) to less than eight inches. Since I work on so many DP301.013s, I take a two-inch CAT5 stub with an RJ45 plug (you can simply use the stump from the end of any ethernet cable) and permanently solder to pads (top-of-board) as listed below. I then connect my Jtag (also with an RJ45 plug) via a RJ45 coupler (Radio Shack 278-2037). This way I can snap-in and snap-out with good gold contacts whenever I may need to.
From top-of-board ...
Pad Signal
9 TMS
11 TCK
13 TDI
15 TDO
19 TRST
20 Ground
Make sure your Jtag Pad-Signal connections are consistent, Ground R79 (not always necessary for a read, but advisable) and insure you are using a jKeys version with the single-TSOP 301 definitions ... Qrash
P.S. - You should also check the sticky in this section titled: "301.13 single TSOP, JTAG, VID mod, and resurection guide"

Hi qrash,
I had thought about doing that exact thing. The only thing I'm not sure about is this: I know you are connecting the jtag to the coupler, but from the coupler, are you using an rj45 cable soldered into a 25 pin connector? That might be a stupid question considering you put this in there:
Pad Signal
9 TMS
11 TCK
13 TDI
15 TDO
19 TRST
20 Ground
but I wasn't sure if you were saying to make these connections via the coupler and rj45's from the jtag to the 25 pin. If this is the case, I think I'm about done. If not, it's back to the drawing board. Thanks again...

Qrash,
Thanks for the link to your mods. I tried everything to get my DP301-13 to work.
I know my jtag is working (unbuffer), and all the wirings are correct. I can not get the IRD# and BK using jkey application. I hope someone can come up with something like JY fix for DP301-13. What is my next step from here beside remove the chip and put it in socket and re-program with known good TSOP.
You can PM me or post it here.
Please help.
Thanks,
Supkp

I am attaching the version of Jkeys which I use for single TSOP DP301.013s.
If you still encounter problems, I will reiterate a standing offer to forum members: I have not met a single TSOP 301.013 that I have not been able to fix (... unless one or more components have been fried). I would be willing to check it out on a no charge basis. If interesed, PM me ... Qrash

I've had several questions about the location of the DP301.013 R62 solder point ... which is a much more robust solder point option to the infamous "spot" which is the delicate terminus of the vid-mod trace cut from SB35. I hope the attached picture helps ... Qrash

anyone know what i might be able to do to work around the R79 pad apparently being ripped of the top side of the circuit board. Must of been a previous attempt.
This is a 301.13.

NOTE: the 2 "RESET" points just behind the pic of your JTAG is also a very easy point to use instead of the "SPOT" to finish up the VID MOD.
