Have done a lot of reading and can't find any consensus on Dlocks.
When it comes to X-locks however there appears to be a lot of searching for help and support with little success.
I have a 2800 looking at Charlie (because he's trespassing on my balcony) with a magic card.
Some say don't Dlock because it gets Charlie's attention and others say don't go without.
What's a Newbie to do?

Digital locks protect the TSOP from getting a ECM write from Charlie put on them and making the receiver only receive 2 channels. If you have a JTAG and don't mind erasing and stream updating your receiver firmware, I guess you don't need a lock. I personally use locks on all my receivers. And use the autoreset ones at that! As far as getting Charlie's attention using a digital lock, he does not know that you are using one, he just knows how they work and sometimes he will send an ECM down that get past the way the lock works and still ECM the receiver. So then, the digilock needs to be redesigned or reprogrammed to trap the TSOP write since Charlie has found a new way to get past the digilock. I recommend the AR105B or AR105C from oddcircuits.com. They are autoresetting digital locks what can be reprogrammed to help futureproof the digital lock from future ECM's from Charlie. I recommend the digital locks simply to help protect the receiver from getting hit and having to use the JTAG to erase a sector and then restream the receiver after a ECM has hit the receiver.

Thanks for the great reply! Having a quick look at the AR105 locks I'm thoroughly impressed with their documentation on all of their items. Compare that to the X-lock and the decision is a no brainer if for no other reasons.

AR105B from oddcircuits.com

the last lock you will ever buy
(for that IRD)

they are also flashable in the event Charles ever develops anti-lock TSOP code
