Most of the receivers are the same when it comes to Sat pick up the Cheaper ones are a bit harder to find software upgrades for when a fix is needed but I would suggest go with the middle of the road cost wise. Blackbird has a good system and Pansat is cheaper and has a not as good visual display for channel lists. As for the dish should be able to use your existing dish lnb to catch most of the signals. you may want to go to a larger dish if you are looking at pulling in weaker smaller Sats, READ READ READ the forums

Do any of the receivers tell you what is currently showing? Or do they only tell which station is on?

No most of the FTA systems that I have seen don,t load the guide like DTV did the only one I have seen that does that is beverley but then again new stuff is out every day so who knows what will happen
