My kids just subbed with Charlie and they got a model 311 (looks like a 301.013) and a smaller unit in their bedroom. There is a card slot in both units but "NO CARD" !! WTFO ? Is this the new direction ole Charlie is going to? I know it will take awhile to swap out everyones receiver but do you know if anyone is working on a hack for these units? Maybe we can record the programming stream from Charlie and send it to our new receivers ourselfs? Just a thought......
Happy Monday!

Cardless is the future, a card swap is in the works.....testing as we now know it will end some day......hacking may become extremely difficult if not impossible, only time will tell.

Whatever that inherent weakness is, it may be very difficult to comprimise. Starchoice and their cardless format have not been comprimised.

There are a lot of new technologies appearing now, give them time, they will have unhackable, or hackable with extremely complicated/expensive methods, in the future....seen the spec sheet on the new flash chip ST came out with? It has embedded unerasable serial number, and write once areas, pretty darn secure..and there will be tougher ones to follow.

If the areas are write once only then if you order new programming how does Charlie change your programming? He can change your programming as much as you want. Just like if you buy a new system you have to call Charlie and they activate your IRD over the phone. If Charlie can program a card through the satellite then there has to be a way to program it through a computer.

Sub info and programming is not stored in the flash.....the flash stores boxkeys, receiver serial, and the new flash chips will have embedded unique flash serial number. That unique serial number will prevent someone from just changing to another flash chip once the write once areas are written to.
Someone posted the spec sheet link here somewhere, read it you will see that it is very secure.
New receivers are cardless, and yes, if it can be programmed by satellite then it could be programmed by computer, all you need are the front door keys, they are very strong encrypted, and have never been compromised. DTV's and Dishnet's cards were never compromised through the front door, it has been through a backdoor and glitching that got us in, and that will stop soon.
