Thanks 1054ranger for the reply but I did some more searching while waiting for a reply under "hard reset" and found Chiefs reply to Twocruisin's post called system locked and it worked great.

Here it is.

You can get into that receiver and edit the password itself, but it's a bit tricky. I tried it once, and it didn't work anyway. I'm SURE it was the receiver's fault...couldn't possibly have been a user mistake

Anyway, here's the sure-fire way to unlock it all. This WILL erase any personal preference settings, and return the unit to all the factory defaults. It won't affect your tsop, firmware, or anything of that nature. It's similar to what Cimba already outlined.

Click menu, 6, 3 on your remote, and quickly (within 4 seconds) click INFO, right, left (browse, theme)...a "device status and memory dump" screen will appear.

Now, push the TV/Video button on your remote and you should see a "non volatile memory corrupt" screen. (if you don't, try pushing "info" instead of TV/Video)

Once you're sure you're seeing this message, unplug the receiver for 15 seconds and plug it back in.

Playboy for you...

I can confirm that the 6,3,info,right,left,TV/Video,pull power for 15 secs removed the password on a model 4000 and 1000
