Your instinct is right, bud. Don't buy into that crap - total BS. As to when the P4 is gonna be hacked...it IS hacked. Question is, when is the hack going to be released. There's one hell of a lot of money, marketing, politics plus some remaining technical issues involved, and that's all got to shake out first. When? Your guess is as good as mine...probably not too long...

Be careful, buddy...lots of that talk sounds inviting and tempting, and 99 % of it is pure hogwash....my advice is keep your checkbook closed until any information like that is verifiable. You won't be sorry....

I have heard this before. I'm not saying it is wrong, but why would the NFL care about pirating? Doesn't Dave pay the NFL and then Dave make up that money from subscribers? Wouldn't that make pirating Dave's problem? I still can't believe they could replace all the cards BY September in order to shut down the stream.

I found some info on the web that suggests someone working at Dave's place either attended or listened in on a meeting held Friday 6/27, where they announced the end of the P3 stream this September. The reason given was heavy pressure from the NFL to make the football games secure. NFL threatened to take the games away from Dave unless he can stop the pirateing, or at least, show they are making a great effort to do so.

The NFL received a 5 year $2 BILLION dollar contract with DTV. (Yup! $400 Million per year) The NFL gets their money Regardless of how many people subscribe to NFL Sunday Ticket. That's right, even if ZERO people subscribe the NFL still gets their money. The NFL could care less about DTV's hacking problem.
Now DAVE, on the other hand, I can see where he would be miffed and want to shut down the "HU Stream" as everyone calls it by Sept. (since no other hack (P4) is out publically). Subscription for NFL Sunday Ticket has increased to $199 before July 31 and $219 (I believe) after that. That's to help pay for the $2 Billion DAVE forked over to the NFL for the exclusive rights to the NFL games.
I hope I've made myself abundantly clear about who really cares if DTV's card is hacked or not. ;)
That all being said, there are still VERY MANY HU Subs out there. Yes some have been replaced with P4 cards. But I find it difficult to believe that ALL HU customers will be replaced by the start of Sept. Myself included.
How long did it take to replace all the H cards?? The first HU cards came out in 1999 IIRC. The H cards went down around Sept. of 2002. Thats 3 years. Now DTV has many more HU subs than he had H subs. probably 3-4 times as many. They began with the P4 swap last year. You do the math.....
{Begin Purely Speculation here}
The earliest the HU packets will be removed from the stream, with my best guess is sometime next year. That would also mean an agressive replacing plan. Which AFAIK is not in place.
{End Speculation}
Have a nice day!! :D :cool:

Would people not agree that testing permotes sports, tv shows, people etc ? The more people who test and watch the NFL for example will benefit their league and rating, profits etc, GTG.

Approx 11,000,000 subbed customers, average bill approx $60, tranlates to, let's see,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, $660,000,000 per month,
I could get by on that, have to give up some stuff, but could get by.
I don't know if he'll sell 2,000,000 football tickets or not. If he sells 4,000,000 tickets, he get his money back doubled. I wonder does he get advertising revenue too??

FRZ,
Interesting points....
My feeling is that DTV will be missing a golden opportunity if they pull the Period 3 VAs until we (the "testing" population) have run the full course.... There is far too much valuable information to be gathered.... If they want to learn, they'll have to "test" just like we do....
There will be a physical end to the HU.... There's only so much that can be done on a tiny chip.... The mods we do to the receivers won't do squat to prolong the life....
It will be fun to see how this all plays out....
