ECM just took out Dish & DTV Irds !!!

A Lightning Strike, in a grove of Pine Tree's, close to my home, just took out my DTV and Dishnetwork Irds. My Home Entertainment system was fried too, because the audio of the irds is connected to it. VCR, Big Screen TV, DVD Player, CD Player all FRIED too. The Sat Dishes on top of my home had seperate 8' ground rods driven in and # 12 copper wire run to them. I had surge protecters on the 110, and telephone, but the spike came in through the Sat dishes, on top of my home, themselfs. I never thought ,that I needed surge protectors, from the dish to the Ird BUT I WAS WRONG !!!!!!! I hope everyone reading this will think about putting surge protectors between their Sat Dish and Irds. I wish I had !!!! :cry: :cry: :cry:

Sorry to hear that.
Guess it is a reminder to make sure we install our stuff with the ground/lightning block on the sat cable and to make sure we use a good surge/lightning rated power strip. I actually use a larger computer ups supply and that has saved me more than once already. It is also nice as when storms get really bad can still watch the weather locally for whats up as it is large enough to run about 1 1/2 hours off the battery
