301-013 software P201
I get upgraded everynight (ask before downloading checked)

? Will masking the software to P203 and fixing the checksum
work with flashedit. Or will locking the eeprom help.

If anyone has tried let me know. I going to mask the software
tonight and see if it holds.

You should be able to do a full erase and reprogram if you have a good backup copy of your tsop, also read the how to's at dssmili.com if you get errors.

Digilock, eeprom lock both are the best route to take I have gotten all but one back and going and thats only because I broke the leg #7 off the eeprom chip it is very costly to buy dental tools so I bought the exacto knife set from rat shack $4.95 because lifting the pin can be a *****.

But then again there are softlocks some say they work, some say they don't I have not used one yet.

Then there are rom cards with blockers right guys? that have not been hit yet.

Same problem here. I caught my ird rebooting the other night and immediately pulled the ac. After I started it up I checked the upgrade setting "the ask before updating", charlie changed the setting to allow updates and then rebooted the ird to try and force the update - lucky to catch that one. Last tight I locked the eeprom no see what would happen.
301.013
p200 software - set to ask before downloading updates
eeprom is locked
no tsop lock
ROM10 Tiers with top everything, PPV,Porn
** ecm'd sometime today but the IRD did not take the update last night.
Trying again
Using same card without reloading anything on it.

Reloaded p200 with softlock for tsop installed
eeprom is locked
will post results

See what happens with time. I would like to know the

I hope you guys have full tsop backups.

But then again there is Birdiemod or Skinerd they may can help you save and repair that tsop.

One thing to note guys:

When most softlocks (and some digital locks) reset, the system download option resets to "without my permission" just ad the act of changing this setting to your reboot ritual.

Reboot
Change system download setting
Switch Check
watch TV

There IS an ecm that resets the option, but I've only seen it hit once in this latest round of ecm's. Good luck.

That was the first thing I did when I started charlie.
I used to test dave that kept me on my toes. Been testing
charlie sence. Was very bored till jul 20 now I'm having fun.
I'm not getting ECM'ed with my current setup as long as my
software is at P201. Just testing thanks for the concern.

Space_cowboy

I used flashedit to spoof my P201 to P203 it didn't work. I
don't think it handled the checksums properly.
Tommorow I'm installing a eeprom lock. Let me know if your's
stops the upgrade. I'll do the same.

I'm not running locks yet I'm having the same problem you posted in another
thread. (reciever upgrades without asking) Just like Space_cowboy I caught
mine in the act. Pulled plug before upgrade moved from ram to tsop. Pluged
back in without feed and found permissions changed.

I have to confess I have a total of four switch's in the back of my box one is eeprom lock two is vidmod three is tsop lock four is a home made toggle switch to keep from unplugging and replugging the IRD you can get confused with all the switch's so I labled mine with a sharpie on the bottom of the reciever.

Yes I have a p200 dp301-013 single tsop back going without resetting or downloading the green bar download that is.

I have done this and yes you must check switch also you may need to change the transponder to get signal and then check switch.

I have no experience with not letting my IRDs upgrade so maybe this is a dumb question: Won't you start losing channels if you don't take the firmware upgrade, or is this a myth? I thought I had read that this was the case in other threads.

Eventually you might losing channels, not nescessarily right away.

Here is another question - why is everyone running from the new firmware upgrades? Charlie can't be putting firmware on yet to stop us from using blue roms. I have p201 and 202 on a couple of 301's and yes they are getting hit - cuz I didnt yank the ppvs or anything off the roms, but no more than anyone else is. So whats the fear of the new firmware? Want to make sure I'm not missing something.

It's not really hard to stop firmware upgrades....:) ....Simply change the build config to something NOT in the stream, like AAAA or BBBB, generate a virgin eeprom with the same non-exist build config and write to your ird. This was told quite a while ago by the founder of softlocks "lutz_diagram".Spoofing f/w will not help. When you start loosing channels and MUST upgrade, no need to rewrite the whole flash/ flashes, which could be a pain if you hAVE 301's or 501/508's.Just open the flash in the hex editor and search for the TEXT string of your build config (AAAA or BBBB), than see where in the flash it's located (top, middle, bottom) and save the corresponding SA address....Edit it to the original status and write the SA back.Generate an eeprom with existing build config(your original) from the back up flashes or any flashes, that are the same and write it back as well and you are back in business....:)

Sounds easy....but I want to know WHY would you want to stop the upgrades? Because the softlocks will only work with certain versions??

Security risk~
The first blocker that wasn't a target was NOMORE 64 7. When used with P203 of a 301.13 (for example) it resulted in no a/v because of the location of some of the data moves. Regressing to p201 allowed the use of this blocker which (in my case) took the ird from a hit every 30-45 minutes to a hit ever 10-12 hours. I am now around 30 hours without a softlock reset using this blocker.

Stas101~
great reminder. I'd forgoten how to do that and the forum I originally saw it on got demolished by a newcardnews attack.

Thanks, If the stream don,t know build no upgrade, makes sense. I'll try that.

Does anyone know why you start losing channels? Does it have somthing to
do with internal channel mapping? Better yet are there any reciever firmware
dissassembles out there?

stas101
07-31-2004, 10:16 PM
Not much of firmware dissassembles I know of.....Chuck makes you loose channels with remapping yes, and there have been talks about it at ID, but so far not much came out of it.....This way Chucky-boy makes you accept his new f/w with surprices, that are going to be discovered later.....;)
