PVR 501 sound but no picture

Hi everyone...can someone please shed some info on why my PVR 501 has a black screen on all channels but i do get sound....I noticed if I turn off the ird and turn it back on it will show the picture...but as soon as I switch channels...picture is gone again but sound is there.....works the same way if I click on the guide button...it will show me the picture...any ideas why? Thanks =)

First thing I would try is a hard reset.

Hold down the power button for 10 sec. let it re-boot. run switch test. watch tv..
