2700 series vs 3800 series receiver

I was told that a 2700 series receiver wouldn't be able to receive all of the channels and display them properly due to a lack of memory and that I should get the 3800 series receiver instead.....does it make that much of a difference? or should I just get the 2700 series receiver anyways?

That is not true, The main difference is the 38/3900 series allows picture of your last channel you are watching to be displayed in the electronic guide menu.
Other than that they are both slow but easy receivers to work with.
