3100 reciever will not power up

What do you mean hack? What did you do so far?

Seems simple, If it won't power up and you just bought it, return it.

Skinerd can help you. If I had any thouble with a rec especially a 301 or 3100 I would take his advice and say please and thanks.
I do not know as much and may never know as much as him but I would let it stream update to current firmware. Hook it up to a good 119 dish or 91 bell signal and leave it alone for a while WITHOUT the card in slot. I think it may heal itself.

Actually we have done nothing at all we were jsut try8ing to read the info from the card and reciever ID and the reciever would not turn on. But this was after we had already had the reciever active to point the dish. By the way your sarcasum is not necessary, I've been hacking for years and helped several this form is usually the place real hobbiest help each other.

Let me expand on the Hack "what have yo done". We tried to point the dish using the old DAve install but the neibours house was int he way so I don't think that the reciever has ever been in the stream. Fist power-up out of the box was fine the when we tried to read the system it would not come back on. Have left it on and box gets hot but no activity other then that. If asked the local but was hoping someone beyond our little place could shine a light.

Does it jtag? I mean does it get a reading of the device Id and flash type?
These receivers are really never off unless unplugged.
They will also not turn on if the flash has become corrupted. Perhaps when you were trying earlier something happened, maybe it was trying to update and was interrupted.
If it will jtag, follow the 301-010 resurrection guide, it will probably come back.
