View Full Version : Soldered 301-10 JTag to receiver and now won't power up

I searched this forum and could not find a solution to my problem. My brother made his own "home made" JTag and soldered it onto a 301.010 receiver. He's a newbie. The receiver has an open JTag port on the bottom, but he followed the instructions for installing the JTag onto receivers WITHOUT the JTag port.

I told him it's not the same, but he didn't listen to me. I think he soldered the wires to the wrong pads on the bottom of the receiver. He proceeded by starting JKeys 2.9.11 (he changed the preference to parallel port) and plugged in the receiver. Wammo! No power! He clicked "Detect" in JKeys and nothing happened.

I suggested he unsolder all the wires to check and see if the receiver would power back on. After he unsoldered all the wires, he plugged the receiver in and the green power light would come on for about 2-3 seconds and turn back off. I don't think he fried the receiver because I didn't smell any smoke. The fuse still looks good.

He's getting power to the receiver. It's just not re-powering itself back up after you plug in the receiver. He tried to hit the power button a few times and NOTHING... NADA... NO POWER! Any suggestions or ideas on how to fix this problem? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Try putting a card in it, see if it powers up then.

We tried putting a card in the receiver, but it still won't power up.

When I insert the card, the power would go on for 2-3 seconds and then power off again.

Sounds like a corrupt flash and or eeprom. Try a virgin eeprom see if that clears it. If it don't then a reflash may be required.

I can't reflash it because there is no power to the receiver. I cannot get a detection from JKey or FlashEdit. A mod from another site suggested the following...

"Sounds like he scrambled his TSOP.. may have grounded it out and shorted it.. which would effectively be the same as doing a Junkyard Fix if he just scrambled Flash1..

But if he's scrambled both of them he'll have to reload both before the box will act normally again.."

What do you think? How would he reload both the flash without power?

Well you have to understand how the power supply works in these, they are really never off, unless unplugged.

Go to the bellexpress.vu site and look at the jtag how-to, get the jtag connected properly.

Get it reading in jkeys, at least the device type part.........sounds like he may have corrupted the flash as suggested, and it will need restored, or resurrected, and there is a good guide posted for that................But get it jtagged correctly first.

Their is a guide called Resurrecting Your 301/3100 where you use walls and jkeys to bring back your 310 ird. i know for a fact it works. took me some trial and error but i got my 310.010 back after i unpluged it after earse but before i programed it. just do a search then read.

I finally got the Jtag to work in jkeys. I went ahead and got my box keys and backed up flash1 and flash2. When I clicked on "Flash Programming", I get the following error:

"The flash codes returned are not recognized by jkeys. Mfg/Device codes returned are FFFF/FFFF(JEDEC) and FFFF/FFFF(FlashFile)."

I cannot erease my flash 1. Any suggestions?

I forgot to mention that I am still not getting power from the receiver. I tried the 301 resurrection, but with no success.
