I'd have to say the 301 series. Super easy jtag, tsop, etc. And the Magic Card is also a breeze.

I would have to agree with lefty, DP301-010! My favorite since I don't have HDT. :D

Of all the receivers I've had, the 721 is by far the best one. If you're a TV junkie, you'll love the convenience of a dual tuner PVR.

508 is good. But if you mess up something it can get pricey. If you are starting out 301's are good. 508 has jtag 510 doesn't but can be converted to a 508. So might as well go with 508 if deciding on the 5xx series. On the 721 probably better then the 5xx series but, I heard if you don't get a brand new with virgin Firmware you are out of luck. Maybe 721 testers can confirm this.

You're half right. The easiest way is to get a new one with the original firmware. You can also get a previously subbed unit that has not been in the stream for some time (open card) and get the keys from the card. Other than that, if card is locked and firmware is updated, you will have to get the keys from the flash, which can be a costly option, but it can be done.

501 will change your tv habits if you get one with a rom 10 no vid mod needed 301 010 also very good choice both these can be used on bev or dish

Asking about the best reciever is like asking about the best automobile. Everyone has their favorite. What can you find, can you get it, what can you use after you get it, and can you keep it going without problems.
Almost like the best woman.
Everyone has their favorite but it may not be the one they have.

Yeah, but can you record 90 hours of Simpsons eposides on either one? I think not, hehe :)
