sometimes there are 2, but usually only one. Inside the tin sat in box, some are a small glass looking tube with a black stripe on one end, some are black. They will be larger than most of the other components, but still very small. If there is a second one it is just outside the sat in box.

Check the volts at the sat in connection, it they are zero, then probably diode is bad, it they are 20 or so then TIP42 transistor is bad, I have seen and repaired both conditions.

it's the one in a large heat sink near the edge of the board.

what is the volts reading at the sat in connector??

check right at the sat in connector, should alternate between 13 and 18 volts (approx)

should alternate 13-18v, if not then the tip42 is bad.
a steady voltage means the tip42 is not switching.
If you had a shorted diode, that can overload the tip42 and cause it to fail.

you could try and remove the zener diodes as one may be partially shorted and see if the volts come up to 13-18, if they don't the tip42 is bad. Does the tip42 have about 22 volts supplying it??

good volts in to tip42 bad volts out= bad tip42. Pretty common device, any good electronics store should have, cheap.
