I want to set-up my Slimline 3Lnb dish.I have a receiver that has never been activated before.
I read here that if you don't get 88 and above on all transponders you will get this screen
(Red X call for waiver).
So if using the receiver for a signal meter and I stay on sat 101 and tune and dither it and exit to sat 103
to check signal,if I have done something wrong and have transponders less than 88 will I immediately get
the Red X screen or what?
I watched the U Tube video link given here and the DTV tech was using a fancy signal meter that could switch between the sats.I don't have one of those but I do have a cheap $10 signal meter but using it requires power from the receiver and only has a needle indicator.I think the one on the receiver gives exact number read outs which is more accurate I would say.
I want to avoid at all costs to get the Red X screen. Can someone tell me how I should do it to make sure
it doesn't happen?

I managed to use the receiver to point my Slimline without the dreaded waiver screen popping up so I think you will be able to dither and fine tune prior to activation.

Sorry but I thought the slimline 3, don't have to fart around with dithering........I could be wrong and hope so since I'm about to order one.

Well in essence if you have your mast dead plumb and your skew and elevation set to specs you shouldn't have to dither if your numbers are acceptable which mine were.

you dither the dish on sat 101 if you do it right 99 and 103 even 119 will fall into place, if milli actvates it before you get it you wont have that problem, but if it rain you may lose 99 and 103=HD if not dithered right just because you have 95-100 on 101 you have to dither the dish so 99 and 103 line up.

if you have a HR or H 21 theres a way around the get a waiver screen.

and the Slimline 3 gets 99 101 ands 103 so you have to set it right. you can use ird to dither.

if you get a slimline dish theres a bubble level in the mast very easy to do and use the mono pole or you will wreck your roof.

Al all the posts really don't answer my questions.
I am not getting my receiver from Mili pre-activated.
Can I use my receiver as a signal meter without getting the waiver screen?
If I set the Skew, elevation and Azimuth for what the dish pointer link says and things aren't right will I get the wavier screen?
Do I need to buy an expensive sat meter to avoid the waiver screen?
If I happen to get it is there a way around it without the tech to visit?
