View Full Version : 2700 - Second JTag Port?

Hi,

I have been trying to read my box keys on a 2700 receiver using the bottom JTag port. I have tried everything (See other post) but cannot get the keys (Peek error).
I do see the device (processor) so at least it is seeing something. The green light does not come on either.

Is there a second JTag port on top of the receiver? If so, does anyone know the pin outs?

Thanks,

Keep trying with Jkeys2.9.9 sooner or later it will allow you to gain access to the flash programming. No there is no topside jtag pads.

What kind of problem you having?? DCU Peek? or Not detected. What type of jtag you using? Homemade, buffered?? The More info the better. Maybe someone can point you in the right direction.

There are topside Jtag pads on a 2700 because that what I use. I cannot get any reading whatsoever from the port underneath besides 0xFFFFFFFF but the top works fine. You will need to solder an internal Jtag though.

Farmboy,

I am using a buffered JTag that I used for DTV. It was the same one as can be found on the Unwink site. I also tried the unbuffered JTag. I can get both to work on a 2800 receiver, but not on a 2700. (I do not connect the +5V wire anywhere but do connect the ground to the large ground pad).

Some history - I bought this receiver and tried it on my TV - it worked. Gave it to a friend. He used a JTag with some sort of pins - and got a peek error. After that the green light did not come one either.

I then started working on the unit and have tried 2 JTags, 3 versions of JKeys, but cannot get JKeys to read the flash. When I start JKeys it does report the Device and Device Type - which is the processor. Like I said, both JTags read from a 2800 receiver.

Thanks,

Here are the topside pad positions for anyone who's interested.

LMAO....I had never realized nor even thought about a topside jtag access on a 2700. Guess cuz every 2700 has a port cutout on bottom. Classic example of 'Taking things for granted' I'm guilty. Thanks for pointing that out JSin. ;)

I was told that jtags are wired a little differently for DTV.

Hi all,

Tried the top port could not get it to read either. Are these seperate ports, or tied together?

Pyotr - My understanding is that most(all) JTags can do most(all) receivers. I am connecting the following wires TMS, TCK, TDI, TDO, TRST, and ground. Ground is connected to the circuit board and case. I have also tried to ground pin 1 - not needed to read box keys only, but I tried anyway. I am not connecting the +V wire to anything on this receiver. However, I tried this arrangement on a 2800 and it worked, so I have to believe that it should work on a 2700.

I guess what I am really getting at is; what else could be wrong with the receiver to cause a PEEK error. I see the "Device Type" and "ID" so I believe that I am communicating with the STI chip(CPU), and it is this chip that handles(controls) comms with all other chips accessable via the JTag interface. Most people say that PEEK error = comms(JTag) issue, period!. Does anyone really know this for sure? If this is the case, I will keep trying.......if not, who knows?

Anyone with any ideas,

Thanks guys,

Mark669

Had peek errors with 2700 too. Tried a earlier version of jkey 9.1.1 that did the job. Never could get 9.9 to work with 2700 with out peek errors.

Scorpionking,

Where did you get this file? Can't find it.

Thanks,

Can be found in echostar files #162 11/13/2003 . Hope that helps.

That did not work...beggining to think that a PEEK error is not solely connection based?????

I have no idea as to where to go from here?

Any ideas?

Thanks,

2700's are a pain in the ass to Jtag. Seems like one moment it Jtag normally and the next it's a stupid error. Just keep trying. I was Jtagging it fine with the new software version but now it won't even detect my flash for some reason so go figure.
