303 message ird program

what is this message that says "wait your receiver's memory is being programmed do not disturb or turn off power" I have a digital lock on it, is this some necessary update. I'm on dish and havent' used the receiver since july??

If the lock is on, and that message is stuck then it is attempting to update the firmware, but the lock is not allowing writes to the tsop. Turn the lock off, by unplugging the ird, then turning the switch to off, then replug the ird and allow it to update.

Thanks but I was asking if this is a required update or an attempt to ecm my ird, I take it from your response that it must be required. I turned off my receiver and it didn't ask again so I just left it, if it asks again I guess I'm supposed to take it??
