Over in ID's forums, there is a discussion going on the prom replacement of a DRD222 that does not have the flash. Some models, including mine, do not have the flash. Apparently, the flash along with resistors can be installed in the blank spot on the PCB and a JTAG used to program the no zkt flash. However, due to the complexity of this procedure, information is being gathered on replacing the prom chip only with a programmable eprom. The 27C160 eprom in a SOIC package with 44 pins is the the replacement for the 222 prom, but is not UV erasable. The optimum eprom to use as a replacement is a 27c160 UV erasable DIP package with 42 pins, this eprom can be programmed in most programmers with the proper adapter. I am trying to gather more info on this procedure, including a source for an adapter that converts a 44 pin plug SOIC package to a 42 pin DIP package socket, which will allow one to piggyback the new 42 pin DIP eprom over top of the exisiting prom in the 222 model. Again, this procedure does not involve adding a flash chip to the blank spot on the PCB Board. Any help, direction, suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Also note, the new eprom chip would be programmed using an eprom programmer with the current 222 no zkt bins that have been released. The new eprom would not be accessible from the JTAG on the 222 once installed. Thanks in advance for any help, STH.
