Riding a Sporty myself. In the last four years spent almost 4000.00 and almost got it just the way I want it.

But that opinion changes everytime I get the new harley acc catalogue.

I've owned two, just sold my last one. Before that, a Suzuki Hayabusa. And I thought the VMaxes were fast....
One of my cars is a 2001 Corvette Z06, chipped, and is capable of nearly 200 MPH.
You'd think this old bastard would grow up... :p

Top Speed :
Claimed top speed is at least 200 MPH or about 321KPH for 1999 models.
Top speed is at least 189 MPH for late 2000 and 2001 models onwards.
Top Speed as measured by the Guiness Book of Records 2000 edition is 317KPH

Keep forgeting about the second bike. Since it's all in pieces in the middle of a restoration. Just about to the final stage. Just need a couple more pieces. Trying to get it back to factory orginal. Fortuntely for me most of it was orginal and in good shape. I also replaced several of the jury rigged pieces while they were still available as replacement parts from Honda. Even have the orginal instruction book and the little tool kit that came with them.

It's a 1972 Honda CL350. And my favorite and my first street bike. Only one I kept actually. Bought it in 81 rode it regularly for 10 years. Then I started in on harley's. It's not fast (top speed of 87mph) and was far from flashy. But it's always been realiable.

it,s as much american as a harley. if you get to looking at the new harley,s you,ll notice forks engine cases and most of the electronics have made in japan on them

markt52. Go down to your friendly Harley dealer and take a test ride on a new 6 speed Dyna, or a Buell, or any Harley for that matter, and then get back to us. I bought a new FXE in '76 for $4000. and sold it recently for $25K. Do the "Bick's" hold their value as well? (there was a saying that when the jap bikes run out of gas you throw them away) As for your last remark, Harley has been farming out parts from the very beginning. (footpegs were made in Italy for one) The Japs thought Harley made such a good machine, they had to copy it. Take a look at the new "rice rockets". They stole almost everything from Harley except the longevity, resale value, sound, and made in the U.S.A. (and the cases aren't made in Japan btw). Go for a ride with shvlhed and watch his taillight disapear.

I think you,ll be seeing the resell drop on the newer harleys. the old one,s will alway,s be valuable now that harley has 50% of the market and everybody is riding them you,ll be seeing quite a drop in value on the new ones used.I,ve had several Harleys to putt around on and I have to admit the new ones are alot better than the old ones.but if I,m going on a trip and want to get there in a timely fashion I,ll take the jap bike every time

I've got an '80 FX that I'm playing with. (todays electronics and all the good stuff) I have three buddies with full dressers and they swear by them. When I was younger I always said if you're gonna put a windshield on it, you may as well buy a van. Now that we're gettin older we like a little more comfort. Harley is best, and if you ever owned one you wouldn't go anywhere else. I'm going to get myself a new ride this year. First "new" bike was '76 FXE so I think I deserve a new one every 30 yrs. What's important is that you're in the wind.

BTW, since this thread was initially called "Any bikers out there. What cha got" in the automotive section, maybe I'll put up a few things that I no longer need for the old Harley.
I've got a
- king queen seat hand made by "Jake the Snake"
- 3-1/2 gal. gas tanks that were painted by the now famous bike builder Bob McKay from Canada
- hex oil tank chrome
and a few other odds and ends for shovel and custom bikes
I've probably got most of the Easyrider mags from the early '70's to the late '80's too.
Take care.

i had a 82 fxrs when i had my truck accident and put me in a wheelchair in '89, also have a 71 tr6 triumph tiger i bought when i was 16, all original, gonna keep it, don't ride it though, pretty hard in a wheelchair, but i had a 77 flh with the tranny out of it, so i thought i might put it to use and built this contraption for myself, it works pretty good, all the controls r on the handle bars and it goes straight down the road so i did a fair job, gonna try and break it down and paint it this winter, i'm a commercial artist, mostly airbrush art by trade, had retail airbrush stores in middle tennessee for 15 years, so i'll put a killer paint on it, sure hard to work on in a chair though, so its pretty slow going, also have a '89 vette, with 80,000 miles on, its pretty sweat also........i need to feel the wind u could say........

You guys are all advanced bikers and I just started. I wish I'd started when much younger since I will be 72 in January, but better late than never, right?

I took a 30-hour Training course and bought my Suzuki 2005 GS500F Suzuki Sept 9th with 1k on it. I passed my final road test (1 hour) Oct 4th and now have over 2100k on it DOES keep one young.

This picture is a 2004 model but is exactly what mine looks like.

I'm answering my own post to update my situation. I drove the GS500F for 3555 KM and decided that almost laying down position wasn't for me so I traded it in on a Suzuki Boulevard M50 (2006 and beautiful Royal Blue color). It's a Cruiser so I can better stand the "position." I insured it Feb 24th and as of today have 5,936 KM. I really love it and try to ride everyday. :D And oh yeah, I now AM 72 and getting sillier and siller, lol.
