need help with 232 setup

I have been trying everything i no of to comminicate with my bb and fortec thru the back rs232 cable i bought a gender changer it did not work i went to ratshack and bought a f/f rs232 and got the same reults. i was able to jtag the fortec so i at least have a memory backup the bb has a jtag but i do not no how to wire it correctly. What is the diffrence between the null cable and straight thru. i dont no what else 2 do. what is every1 doing 2 get there flashes going? i no the com port is good as i program my mc cardsa on it all the time.

You must have a straight thru cable to program the Fortec. A null modem cable have pin 2 and 3 crossed on the other end. Make sure pin 2 connects to pin 2 on the other end with the gender-mender connected and you're good to go.

isn't the 232 f/f cable from ratshack a strait thru? I have used the cable from my hu loader with a gender changer and that also did not work. I must be missing something here.
