Look at price? and quality
Cheaper models have less features and less capabilities
some models I think are over priced
you should pick one that has lots of support available
Such as
Black bird
Silverbullit
Pansat
Coship
Any others you might run into difficulty in getting an updated Flash

I think mili said this somewhere so I'll just pass it along.
"Get an FS-5900 and an FTA Magic Card then your support will be provided by the Magic Card team."

I got a pansat 2500A (got tired of waiting on DAVE, too). It was easy to setup and I didn't have any problems other than finding my signal. I know a couple of people that had Fortec Ultra and swapped them for the Pansat.....If that helps you any!!!

I neglected to mention in my first reply that I bought a Pansat 2500A also, but have not had a chance to actually hook it up to my TV as I have company at the house and don't want to ignore them. I did however, apply the flashes and that was a trouble-free breeze.

This is SO backwards,,,I have sold about 200 Fortecs and 6 pansats,,,rarely do I have people come to tell me they are having problems setting up the Fortec,,Pansat on the other hand is so confusing and caused my customers so much grief that I stopped selling the pansat...I will still get them for anyone that insists on the Pansat but I just tell them they are on there own if they choose to buy a pansat...I also had a blackbird and it was the same with it,,,after personally trying the 3 recievers, I choose the Fortec for its ease in setup...

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Pansat receiver. There are dozens of "HOW TO" posts on several boards detailing, step-by-step how to set up the box. It is very straight forward. I think the hardest part of getting started was aiming a high gain 90cm dish at the satellite I wanted to view. ...because the tv set was on the 2nd floor and I didn't have a signal strength meter to guide me.
Most of the new receivers do a great job, but some have features that you may wish you had selected if you choose a lesser model. Take time to review what satellites you are going to want to watch, then decided if you need svhs video output, digital Dolby output, etc.
When you get stuck, post a "help me" and describe what it is you are having trouble with, but PLEASE READ, READ, READ and search on a subject title prior to asking. Most of where you are going has already been covered numerous times and posted. Check the archives.
Have fun and enjoy!
