Converting Expressvu to Dish
I just wanted to know if I purchase a dish 500 dish, and install it on my roof at the right degree etc, and if I program my atmega card to dish 500... will my expressvu 3100 receiver work when it comes to picking up dish 500 signals??? Thanks!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, the receiver would be capable to do so.
Need to convert it to Dish f/w though.
Then put on Dish programming on whatever card you use
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
heres a c&p from a guide i have
1st method of converting a BEV IRD to a DISH IRD or vice versa, is simply flashing a TSOP image containing virgin firmware & a virgin EEPROM image to the IRD & then put the IRD in the Data stream of the Provider you want & it will update with latest firmware from that provider’s data stream.
Not sure how to determine a virgin tsop image?? It’s simple… If the firmware of the tsop bin is P0XX or 0XXP it is a virgin tsop bin. For example 3100-10U-P055-13EB-EACA.bin & 301.010-10U-P054-13EB-EAEA-.bin are both virgin tsop bins.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2nd method of converting a BEV IRD to a DISH IRD or vice versa, is simply flashing a TSOP image already containing firmware of the provider you want & a virgin EEPROM image to the IRD. This a good method but can be a pain since you will have to find a TSOP that matches the exact 4 letters of your IRD’s build config & newbies (some time oldies) tend to erase flash 2 and screw things up & I am not even going to get into all that. So I would only advise this method if you have a good JTAG, good tsop bin images, & really know what you are doing.
3rd method of converting a BEV IRD to a DISH IRD or vice versa, is called the JUNK YARD FIX & I am not going to cover that method in this tutorial simply for the fact that this can cause long term damage to the TSOP & possibly other components on the IRD’s motherboard. Simply put… If it has a Jtag interface… use it!!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The 4th & final method of converting a BEV IRD to a DISH IRD or vice versa is one of my favorites & unlike method 2; you do not have to find a matching TSOP bin. We will refer to this method as “Erasing the 1st Sector Method”. For this you will need Jkeys 2.01 or later:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1st you will need to find the correct satellite signal of the provider you wish to use. This can be done no matter which provider’s firmware you have. Just take note that the signal meter will not turn green & that it will just stay red but you will be able to fine tune it to get a high signal.
This is very important!!!!!! When doing the next step of this method with 301/3100 models, it is very important that FLASH 1 is chosen at all times. So DO NOT erase anything in flash 2!!!
Erasing the 1st sector of flash 2 will result in you reading my 301 Resurrection Guide & trust me… you want to avoid that as much as possible.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now that you have a good signal from the desired provider, Jtag your IRD and let it get your IRD # and Box Keys.
Then click on Flash Programming.
Where it says FULL, change that to the very 1st sector, SA0.
Choose Erase, then when asked choose YES.
With the 1st sector erased, put the IRD back in the stream as if you were doing a Natural Update. In a matter of time the LED will begin to flicker & take the update of the new Provider Firmware.
Also, you can erase the entire FLASH 1.I don’t know why you would want to do this since you can just erase the 1st sector of Flash 1 in a matter of seconds & accomplish the same thing as erasing the entire flash
