View Full Version : Understanding Bin file for FTA receiver?

Although I would never do it, I'm just curious if there are posted documents on understanding how the FTA Bin files work, how to figure out why they stop working, and how to fix them? I'm guessing they might have to be different for each receiver type, but I don't really know.
I've looked around but couldn't find any info. Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places.
Again, this is just technical curiousity as I would never actually do this to illegally receive an encrypted satellite signal.
Thanks in advance for any info.

I'm with you. I would be willing to learn how to examine and tear apart one of these bin files, and rebuild and share with everyone. The more of us that can contribute, the better our future will be. Is there anyone out there that would be interested in sharing info with us? I am willing to be a yound padewan...(jedi in training)

I second that,,,I think alot of people would also contribute, but I have asked this very question in the past and got no reply,,its as if anybody that knows how, doesnt want to share the knowledge...If one person that knows how would take the time to explain to everyone, I am sure we would not be sitting here waiting for a fix, we would be watching tv

I'm thinking the FTA stuff came on so quick none of the Card jockey's really had any
prior experiencewith Set Top box API's. I also theorise that the flash files on pansat
and other could be dumped and hex edited to achive the desired outcome.
However ther isn't any formal doc's that I know of to give a roadmap of the memory
addresses or what locations hold what dat a or pointers.
I wonder if we compared a hex dump of the pansat bin to the dump of X8500 bin
would that yeild any positive info. Yo I'm just rambling out loud so don't get cute.
Where is that P5 dump when U need it....:D
I do recall in my readings months ago, prior to getting a 2300a some thing about
the STi processors for the 2300a it's spec's are
MICROPROCESSOR & MEMORIES
Main Processor Sti 5518, ST2D 32bit
Cpu Clock 81 MHz
Flash Memory 1 Mbyte
SDRAM 8 Mbyte
EEPROM 32 Kbit
The assembler or compiler was big $$$ so not alot of cats could layout the bread anyway?
that's my dump for now more as it cooks:p

Here is some iteresting serial port stuff I treid and it's true

Does anyone have a reference on how to use the RS232 port for something other than programming the receiver? I would like to write an interface program for my PVR so I can get it to switch channels directly.
Try loading up HyperTerminal at 115200 baud and then turn on the receiver. You'll get the following:
BOOT2 YPTI_Init()=Ok
FEC TYPE ID : 4
Tune Ok ...!
converison///Header->VideoType = 1
ZoomOut_Enable = 0
Kind of interesting, but I'd like to know more!

Thats exactly what Im talking about. I didn't know that, I wouldn't have even thought about doing that...
Panther, you're on board aswell. Now, we have ideas, but no knowledge (speaking for myself anyway).
I do have desire to learn though,
Can anyone else contribute?
