I have a 3900 that won't get a signal it was getting one and the picture started to break up like when a storm comes and then it quit. I replaced the tsop flash on it and it still gets no signal on 119 or 110. I did a check switch also and still no signal. I checked the voltage where the coax plugs up and I read it should be 12 volts or higher it had no voltage. Is their a common part that burns up I could replace on the board? With a different receiver hooked up everything works fine. Any help would be appreciated.

JOE SNUFFY ,
I had a similiar problem on one of my 3900's, it turned out to be the small channel 3 - 4 switch on the back of the receiver, try switching it back and forth a couple of times or wiggle it a little and see if you get your signal back.

I will try that.

To the guy that can't get a signal try and load the 3900 as a 2800 using the file I posted. It has brought a few back from the grave for me since the tsop chip is big enough to load either a 3900 or 2800 tsop. What you want to do is erase the 3900 flash then change the receiver on to a 2800 erase it also then load the file I posted it will say that the memory isn't totally erased or something like that just click to continue then the blue bar that shows how long you have to wait till it is finished will start about 3/4 quarter of the way over thats normal. The file has worked for me on every 3900 regardless of the 4 build letters on the board. It has worked for me also when loading the a 3900 file would not. It is important to change the receiver to 2800 before loading it.
It won't let me post the file because I already posted it here at http://www.dssftp.com/forum/upload/showthread.php?t=24697
Just go there I had better directions also.
Good Luck

kishadog69,
You said that you get a "default" , do you mean some sort of error, if its an error it should have a number with it. The number will tell you what type of error (problem) that your having !!!

No, the "DEFAULT" comes up when I go to watch TV. It says "searching for satelite" and when it tries to find a satelite to hold on to the top says DEFAULT, below that it searches 1,2,3,4,etc. but never finds one. When I choose menu and do a 6-1-1 it won't even work on check switch I get X,X,X,X for all sats. So, something in the program is screwed or I fried the cable connection part of the ird. Because when I plug another receiver in to the same connections, it works fine. Something is screwed up from the point of attachment to the cable or in the receiver.
Redo it!!! Let it sit for hours!!! I've come across that problem. Seems like charlie is slacking on updates by me. If you want, get a good TSOP public dump from the bank, create a virgin EEPROM & let it update. Sometimes it may take a while, do not interupt it. Or, you'll be

Reload! the TSOP it is No Good. Find a new sourse

If the TSOP is trying to update, you will get 0V. Get a TSOP from the bin, create a virgin EEPROM & let it update.

Hello,
I have a 3900 that just did the same thing on Bev. I had a 2800 bev tsop loaded on it and the tsop is still working because I am using it on a 2800. I had a Dish 3900 also do it this week on dish and I couldn't get it to get a signal and it had a 3900 tsop on it. I tried to use the menu to zero it out on the settings and it won't let me. I was watching the bev one when it quit and it just quit then no signal. Does anyone know how to do a hard reboot on that receiver or no anything else. I will save the 2800 bev file that is currently running and place it on they 3900 to see if that fixes it like someone said above and post the results.
If anyone can help please do. I have seen a lot of posts with these types of problems on the 3900 lately.

Kudos to Squidly he was right seems both providers are getting stingy with the updates I'm sure to keep people plugged in. I read and reloaded the 2800 tsop that stays in the stream to the the 3900 and it was back up and running.
Thanks Again

hey can you please tell what you mean by reloaded the 2800tsop to the 3900....I have a 2800 that is not picking up a signal at all...nothing...it has a good tsop and eeprom bin...but can't get a signal...have tried many things...it just quit 1 day...
try erasing sa30 3 or four times, than restream.
if that dont work try switching to a 2700,, this is to convert to bev, but i am sure you can do to a 2800 for dish or whatever
Dish 3900 to Bev 2700 Conversion
The following works, it does not seem to matter about the Build config. I have done this twice and this does work. They maybe some extra steps or something may not be clear, just let me know. This idea was from Tonic and I just expanded it a bit.
To convert a DISH 3900 to a BEV 2700
1. Get the latest BEV software/FW from a 2700, today it is E409
2. Using Jkeys connect to your 3900 and get the following
a. Build Cfg
b. Boot Strap
c. Model ID
d. Software
3. At this time do a SAVE MEM and save your TSOP
4. Go to EEPROM Programming and save your EEPROM
5. Open FLASHEDIT 1.3, in fact open it twice so you have two of the same windows up at the same time.
6. Using FLASHEDIT open up the TSOP bin file that you just saved, and then click READ FILE.
7. Using the other FLASHEDIT window open up the BEV E409 bin software that you have acquired, and then click READ FILE.
8. Copy the following info from your 3900 FLASHEDIT window to the E409 FLASHEDIT window.
a. IRD#(Hex)
b. Box Keys
c. Build Config
d. Bootstrap
9. Click on the Fix CRC for good measure and then click on SAVE AS ... and give it a file name that you can find again, maybe like BEV-E409-3900.bin or let FLASHEDIT default be used, just remember it.
10. Open up Jkeys again, Click on FLASH PROGRAMMING, Click on ERASE and choose YES. After this is done, do it again.
11. Continuing in Jkeys screen (where the erase button is), Change the IRD MODEL to a 2700
12. Click on PROGRAM, click YES, on ERROR MESSAGE about not being erased, but you already did that so, Click YES
13. Select the new BEV file the you saved from step 9 above.
14. It will start to program and it will look different then you have seen before. The Program Rate will be strange, but let that go and wait for the Flash to be completed and then click OK.
15. Close the Jkey Programming Window. Now on the JKeys by D2 window, click DETECT. Check to see if the changes have taken place. Or close JKeys and open it again.
16. Note that the IRD Model says a 2700, your Build Cfg, your Boot Strap and Software should have changed to what you have pasted before.

Hope this helps
Joe
it is actly simple to do,,,
i also found this,, its for a 2700 but might be somewhat the same for 3900 if you are using a solder jtag
this is a good guide to get that signal prolem fixed. i fixed 1 using this. i had to remove c250
In some cases the problem you describe with your receiver is due to cold solder points.
2700's are notorious for this. In most cases applying a little heat to these can fix the
problem. The solder points are R177, R178, c118, c119, C207, & C208. If you reheat these
and still have no luck, as a last resort you can try removing C250. Good Luck.

Well back at it again, tried to bell conversion, it worked to get thr box converted, but still no signal...
if your saved personal dump was untampered with than all should be ok,
if not look for the right file for your ird.witht the right build config,, will need to take cover off to read it.
now with no signal, i am assuming it is powering on, but is weird because if you are putting a virgin image on it should need updating, and would not power up yet, I think.
dumb ass question, but are you pointing at the bev bird before you plug in ird,, if you dont have that locked in first its gonna be a bit@h to find,,,
kishasdog, did you go over the solder points ????
other than that all i can really think of is a shatty connection in the back of ird?
did it werk before you buggered with it?
and you tried new tsop and eeprom, and made sure you put correct keys and ird info back on it?
and used correct build config ?
