4000 Update Procedure?????

I have a 4000 bev receiver which has 2 tsop locks and a eprom lock on it. It has old firmware on it though. (E321BUBA-N) My question is, how do I SAFELY update the receiver. I dont have a virgin card or the original that came with it. I have used a ROM 10 with it and seems to work but get nags. Do I unlock all 3 switches and hook up to dish or do I need to have a card in it for it to update. Any help with the proper procedure would be greatly appreciated.

shouldn't need a card. try it tonight. take card out, unlock everything, set ird to dl without permission, hook to stream, and leave overnight.

I don't think you will need a card. I'm positive I've updated a 4900 w/o a card in it last week. I was working on the card while it was updating so you shouldn't need one.

Treid to download firmware for 24 hrs now with all three locks off and no luck still. Any ideas....do I have to reconnect cut traces maybe????? Any help would be appreciated,

LOL, Another 4000. It took my dish 4000 3 frickin nights to update. Forget overnight!!!! I have a test tv just for problem childs. LOL
