Just bought a 301 IRD ID 010. It works fine, powers up and downloaded the guide.
I have been trying to JTAG the unit for couple of hours without any luch. I have tried everything. Keep getting the message 'unknown device'.
I know my JTAG device works since I tried it on another IRD and it worked on the first try.
Is there any reason that an IRD would not be able to get JTAG-ed ?
I would appreciate any suggestions :)

Hold pin 1 low. Power up unit with jtag in place. Are you using buffered or resisted jtag?

i am just using a passive\ resistored one that i threw together but has worked on a 2700 just yesterday. tried holding pin1 low[at plugin and holding or plugin and release]neither worked. there was some contradiction as to whether or not swap pins 5 and 6.[tried both]
any further ideas will be greatly appreciated.
301.010 orig card was rom11@b89<haven't cracked that basterd yet either.

Card does not matter to jtag. Take it out. Turn unit over (upside down) controls facing you 8 spots on MB do not use 1st one on right second on right is red pin use next 4 spots + case ground does it.

OK everyone is on the right track. Make sure your NOT soldering to ETAGS..... JTAGS are only on the bottom of these boards. mean you have to follow the steps below.
HAS GREAT VISUAL DETAIL FOR JTAG.

I solder to the top side of the board, no problem at all, EJTAG port, points 1,3,4,7,9, you can trace the pads on bottom to these points.
