That all depends on which mode you want to run your magic card in.

Good to have either way, for ecm fixes or just retrieving your box keys or ird infomation.Jtag is an essential tool.

get or build a jtag first, so you can back up your ird.

No not using magic card myself but have programed a few of them. But they'er just like anything else,my opinion. Anything you test with will go down sooner or later with an ecm or a nag problem. I have three 3100's and using rom 10,atmega and avr and believe it or not,I think my avr is most reliable next to my open rom 10.

please do yourself a favour and get a jtag.
