If the IRD does not store information and the card does but the stream sends data to the card through the Ird is there a way to order movies and see what contact pins are feeding the card the information from the stream then add a switch to kill the feed line or lock to stop Dave from getting to the card again and leave us with the card programmed if the IRD could still get the feed from the card what would you need Dave for other than updating every once in a while.
Its just an idea but any body is welcome to tell my dumb ass why it will not work.

There are no pins used on the smartcard specifically for PPV purchases or activation. The pins on the card are used to send commands/receive data to or from the card. The card receives a command on one pin...processes the command...and then sends a result message, if appropriate, to the transmit pin...that simple. If you hooked up a switch to disallow some of these pins, the card could not communicate with the receiver at all...no TV at that point.
Consider the analogy of a hard drive in your PC...you can read data and write data...that's it...what you're asking above would be the equivalent of putting a switch in place to specifically stop Microsoft Word from running, but allow other applications to run.
Hope this helps explain why this particular idea won't work...

Ok I see what you are saying that the card is a hard drive with a built-in program that decrypts the encrypted messages sent by Dave then it sends it in binary to the machine/computer/Ird and with any pins discontinued it will not work.
What would happen if one was to try and get between the two card and Ird with a computer and a program of choice to act as a controvert or blocker so that Dave can't send commands to kill the card but allow the card access to the Ird?
I know all of the commands or messages are encrypted and that the only ways to decrypt them is by looking for patterns or by using a program to decrypt them but I don't want to keep whipping a dead horse here; I just thought it was a good theory.
However, I am sure this theory was already thought of.
