I have a 301-010 and was getting dish. I put up another dish and found the Bev signal (saying wrong satellite, bellExpress). I disconnected the dish bird and hooked up the Bev bird.
Then I erased the SA3 on the Flah1 5 times and let the IRD receive the updated. I waited and waited and nothing happened. (for couple of hours).
Could anyone give me a suggestion as to what I am doing wrong :)
I need to say that after not being able to get the IRD to convert to Bev, I erased the Flash1 and programmed my saved Flash and hooked up to the Dish bird and the IRD updated itself to Dish again.
I would appreciate any suggestions. :)

My IRD did that too. I just put the card in for less then a second to make it reboot, then pulled it. After rebooting it updated in about 10 minutes.
You’ll know it updated when it turns itself off.
My IRD did this more then once.

Just a thought, if you happen to be in the SE or SW US, there is a problem receiving all the TPs. If you can get TP3 on 91(Nimiq1&3), you should be able to update. If you can`t get TP3, then you may need to point to 82(Nimiq2).

Thanks Trapofmind, I tried your suggestion, but it didn't work for me.
Again thanks for your reponse.
Hi Dave11,
By TP3 I think you mean Transponder 3. How can I find out if I am getting the transponder 3.
While the IRD was setup on Dish I found the 91 and was ok. Can I check there on Dish IRD to find out if I am getting the Transponder 3.
I would still appreciate other suggestions :)

Also I forgot to mention that when I hook up to the Bev Bird for the first time, the IRD light flashes. it comes on and once every 10-15 seconds or so, it turns off and on.
Does this mean, it is taking a update.
But anyway, it takes couple of hours before I get tired of it and turn it off.

Has anyone else had a problem converting to Bev in Southwest area. If yes, could you guys let me know what you did to overcome it.
another thought. Can I just go ahead and program a Flash1 from the public file area and convert the IRD to Bev.
Thanks :)
I've had issues with encouraging 301's to convert myself, and I came up with this procedure and it seems to work every time in less than 15 minutes. Take your 301.10, jtag it and erase SA3 on tsop1 7 times (it's overkill, but I figure 7 is most peeps lucky number) Flip your box back over and unplug the unit. Hook everything back up streamed to provider your converting to or ECM repairing for with no card in the receiver. If it doesn't start to update (receiver power light blinking on and off about every 5 seconds) in about 5 minutes, insert the card upside down. This works every time on one condition; Your receiver must be set to download firmware updates without permission BEFORE you erase SA3.

The potential for problems when doing a full rewrite is a lot greater than just erasing SA3, but sure, you can do it that way too. I'd keep trying the SA3 erase conversion. It works everywhere you can receive the signal for either provider. I forgot to mention too though, your dish must be aimed properly before you erase SA3 as well.
You must also convert your rom by writing a BEV image to the card. Images to do so are in the download section. It sounds to me like your receiver is responding correctly, your just missing one of the 'obvious' things that aren't so obvious the first time around.

Thanks for your suggestiong JT, but it didn't work for me.
now I am left with two options.
1. copy files from public file area (flash 1 and 2).
2. follow Dave411's suggestion. since I live in Southwest area. I was wondering if anyone had tried that option and knew anything about it. I had a difficult time locating the 91 bird and I hate to go out there again and try to locate 82 and tehn back to 91.
I would appreciate any suggestions as to which option is better :)
Thanks everyone.

Yes, I meant transponder 3. From what I understand TP3 is the transponder the updates are on. I checked to see if I could use a dish receiver to check TP3 and I could by putting 3 in the TP box even though it says wrong satellite. My signal goes to 0 on TP3. I have been concerned about this since the signal loss here in the South a couple of weeks ago. Don`t know if this is your problem or not, but would be interested to see if you get signal.
FYI: You may not get TPs 3,7,9,11,17,21,23,25 if you are out of the footprint.

Sorry, I may be offering more questions than answers, but the problem with loading a complete TSOP may be that it is not the latest firmware version. If you are not able to update by erasing SA3, you also won`t be able to update firmware versions. I look at both 82 & 91 and at this point, I am hoping I will get any new software updates from 82, but I don`t know for sure. Also, we are missing a lot of channels because of the lost TPs. These problems are only for CA, AZ, NV, FL, and some other areas of SE and SW.

Hi Dave411,
What type of dish are you using to see both 81 and 91 ?
I might have to do that. As of now I am using a single LNB. What channals are on 82. I might have to get a dual LNB to get both of them if what you are saying is fact (needing 82 to updated).
Thanks again everyone for your suggestions.

I am using 2 18" dishes, but you could also use a dish 500. 82 is a bit weaker sat so a larger dish would work better if available. 82 is mostly HD and foreign, not much SD programming, but I believe it will allow you to get the complete guide for 91 and hopefully updates. This is somewhat a new developement and I can not say for sure that the 82 will work for you. If you want to try, I would suggest reaiming to 82 and see if you can update before spending any more money. My final solution, if I need a firmware update and 82 doesn`t work, is to send my receiver to a friend in the Midwest to update. They have all the signals, but I hope it doesn`t come to that. BTW if you aim at 82, put receiver on TP1 which is a strong signal and might be easier to find. Good luck.

Stallion: I just converted a 2800 to bev 2700 using 82. I first tried 91 and the light flickers a few times, but then nothing. On 82, it flickers a few times, then came on solid. Once the light went out, it was done - 5 minutes maybe. At least that means the updates should come through on 82 and that is good news. Not sure what to tell you, but if you reflash the TSOP maybe it will update, but I am pretty sure only on 82.

I tried on 82. I found 82 before converting and then I hooked up the IRD. if flickers. once about every 45 seconds to 1 minute. it has been doing that for last 45 minutes and nothing.
I will wait some more and see.

Dave411, how long did the process take?
91 is the primary BEV bird and the one you should shoot for in this case.

It only took about 5 minutes on 82. Yours sounds just like mine did on 91. I assumed it was searching for the update signal, but could not find it. On 82, I have signal on all TPs except 5,6,9,10,12,22,29,31. This is normal - just bad transponders. Might check to make sure you have good signal on the other TPs, but other than that , I`m kinda running out of ideas. I wanted to see if I could get the update because I was worried that my 6000 would not receive the firmware updates after the Nimiq 3(DTV) move to 91. If we just lived a a few hundred miles farther north, we wouldn`t be having this problem. Good luck.
EDIT: Tp4 also no signal

Instead of erasing sa3 flash 1 just jump the 3001 r283 and ground when led turns off release the paperclip

That's called the junkyard fix for a reason. Your receiver could end up in the junkyard if you do it. (even though it probably works 95% of the time, maybe more) The right way to do it is with a bjtag.
