don't let anyone tell you when the HU will go down, I am pretty sure that date keeps changing even within the halls of Daves own house. The news flash I read said just what 001438 said about the NFL's veiled threat to Dave. What I read went more like this though- "If DTV can not show substantial advances in the prevention of piracy of NFL football games, then we will seriously consider not airing our games in the form known as the NFL Sunday Ticket." This is not to say that the games wont still come in with a p3 card via the major networks, nor did the NFL say with any real authority that they wont let DTV air the games as the Sunday ticket. If you add the fact that, in my opinion at least, Dave has made some pretty substantial steps toward achieving the stipulated goal, (I think it was about 6 months ago that I read that, and I can't remember where I read it) I don't think we should start sweating quite yet. They are extremely hard to come by now, but there are still quite a few ligit HU's still in use. This is just the vibe I am getting. In the end, who the hell knows what time frame we are looking at with the end of the HU. It's getting to be like people predicting armageddon or something, and I always sleep like shit the night before....ahhhhhhhh. I remember Black Sunday, I was there, I witnessed the mayhem and destruction in real time. I can't imagine the end of the world being much worse.:D

And yes Blade was right. Many people have suspected that the end of the HU card/stream is near. The reason that I stated that it would be happening close the the beginning of Football season is because it was reported that the NFL would drop thier deal with DTV if they couldn't keep people from viewing all of the games for free.

I've stated this before and I'll state it here again.

The NFL does not care one iota if someone hacks DTV and NFL Sunday Ticket.

Let me repeat that for those of you in the cheap seats.

THE NFL DOES NOT CARE ONE IOTA IF SOMEONE HACKS DTV AND NFL SUNDAY TICKET!!!!

Here is the reason. The NFL has a contract with DTV. 5 Years $2 BILLION Dollars. The NFL gets their money REGARDLESS of how many subscriptions to NFL Sunday Ticket there are.

Let me repeat that for those of you in the cheap seats.

THE NFL GETS THEIR MONEY REGARDLESS OF HOW MANY SUBSCRIPTIONS TO NFL SUNDAY TICKET THERE ARE!!

Thats right. Zero subscriptions = $2 Billion for NFL. 100 ZILLION subscriptions = $2 billion for NFL.

This will be the last time I post on this subject. If its unclear to anyone now, please get some assistance. Thank you and have a nice day. :)

I think that that is probably the situation as well, but after thinking about it a bit more last night as well, I came up with this notion.

If you were to record the game, would you get a better recording from cable or satellite?

An illegal rebroadcast would be a lot easier to produce from a satellite feed....just a thought.

I just thought of yet another possible reason the NFL might, I mean might, care about DTV security.

Imagine you own a bar with a dozen TV's and you are making big bucks every sunday due to illegally broadcasting every game for your customers....at what point does the benifit stop outweighing the risk?

I still don't think these last two points really change the core argument, which I agree with. But have you guys considered these two scenarios. The NFL does not like to see there games aired without their explicit permission. They have always been uptight on that point. And rightfully so. ;)

JackTripper does have an excelent point .. Here in Canada when game is blacked out the Americans come from Buffalo or Detroit and watch the game on the Canadian side in a bar running a hacked dish ...

I doubt that football will deside the end of the HU ( football card ) though ... haha

I agree that it is unlikely that the NFL could, or would, try to apply significant enough pressure on Dave to force him to complete the entire HU swap. It wouldn't suprise me a bit though if they decided to up their fee for letting Dave sell it. We are talking about the bottom line here. One can not say absolutely that the NFL has no stake what so ever in the security of any company that broadcasts their films. They have always had concerns and contracts that specifically address this issue with all companies that air their product.:D
