View Full Version : 1 or 2 Flash TSOP?
How can one tell if their TSOP needs two flashes? (22, 23?) Can JKeys Tell you or a number on the IRD? What are two flashes for? is it better to have two?

How can one tell if their TSOP needs two flashes? (22, 23?)
Can JKeys Tell you or a number on the IRD?
Yes JKeys id's two flash chip models when run. You select
which flash to save or write with the pull down selectors
in jkeys. The option only shows up on a two TSOP model
Model numbers can be misleading. Some like the
301 have both two TSOP and 1 TSOP versions.
On the one TSOP versions it is usually a 4 meg instead
of a two 2 meg TSOP's.
What are two flashes for?
The flashes are just the saved software from the TSOP.
It is the operating system of the receiver. Much like windows on your PC. The more TSOP's the more features. The equivalant of upgrading (faster micro and more memory)your pc to run XP instead of Win98.
is it better to have two?
Depends on the end user. If you want all the extra bells and
whistles yes. If you just want to watch tv no.

ps: Some models even have three TSOP's. :-)
Hey thanks t160hq!!
So if JKeys gives me the option of doing both flashes, it means that I have two? Because when I select "Flash Programing" and go to that window, on the left menu, it pops down and shows Flash 1 and Flash 2. So does that make my 301 a 2-TSOP IRD? And is it a MUST to flash both?

Yes.
And is it a MUST to flash both?
Depends on the reason you are flashing the TSOP's.
If you are flashing to change the software version (from say a P189 to a P188) then you need to flash both.
If you are flashing because you now have America's Top One after a serious error nag.
Easy way: Flash both from your backups. It's a sure method and you don't have to bother with finding which flash contains the ECM code.
A bit harder until you know how but faster after you learn. Only one sector of one TSOP has to be written.
Save both flashes. Open them up in Flashedit 2.0. Click on the box Fix ECM. Click on save. Then select save ECM fixed sector. Then write just the sector you saved on the flash affected. The saved sector file will have the flash and sector info in the file name.

Thanks again t160hq. I really appreciate your time. I got the FlashEdit part, just one more detail. How do I check that my IRD is 301.10 or 301.13?:)

White sticker on the back with receiver ID and model info.
It will list it as a DP 301-010 or a DP301-013.
If no -0XX then its just a DP301. The first 301 did not have a 10 or 13 designation.

On the sticker it just has "3100 REG. ID:010" so I assume its 301.10

Thats a Bev receiver. Never worked with them but from reading a bit I understand the 3100 010 is virtually the same thing as a DP301-010.
