I have a 2700 receiver and I read the TSOP and extracted the box keys and made a copy. My question is do I need to write a different file to my TSOP or do I leave it as is?

leave it as is, just take care of the back-up, it will come in handy later

Yep.
If it's on dishnet it should read as a 2800 model and be at firmware 797 to work correctly, If not it will need to update via stream

Where do I find this file and how do I update the firmware?

Just back it up in Jkeys with the save mem option, Then click on flash programming, Select SA5 and delete that sector 5 times, Hook the ird back up to sat and plug power in with no card in it. Wait until it comes back on asking for card and goes to a info screen, Takes about 5-15 minutes usually. Take the ird and Jtag it again, Do another save mem. It should be updated now with 2800 firmware and ready.

I found the the file in dssmili tsop bank. I assume I will have to edit the file and enter in my IRD#, Box Keys and write the file back with my JTAG programmer?

Why not just update yours like i posted.
You can use one from the tsop bank also, But will need to take the tsop bin into flashedit first to restore the ird and boxkeys before using it. Much easier and you can retain your ird and boxkeys by following what I posted to update it.

I would do it your way but I can't get a signal yet because my card has not been programmed yet and the receiver won't let me get to the system setup menu to point the dish.

Ah, Yes that would be a problem. If you put a current blocker on the card then you can point the dish for signal, Then update it and redo the card to get it going.
If the card is a rom 2 it does not need a blocker, Those are marked on the back 288-01

What mod's do I make to the TSOP file using FlashEdit. I know I have to enter my box keys and IRD# but is there anything else that needs to be edited?
Thanks for your help.

Just ird and boxkeys, Then save the file.
