Used to work, But with the new firmware I have not had any luck myself anymore.
A true dialtone is a combination of two frequencies, 350 and 440 hz, Newer ird's needed this vs older ones could be spoofed with a single freq.
About all I can tell you on the topic now.

hey birdie, I have some 3900, 4900 at other peoples houses that they use, I have never had success with "buying ppv's" except on a 4900 with a atmega card (10 dollar limit) I could never find a good turial on doing this. Would you be able to point me in the right direction for a good guide at making purchases with rom cards? Or is this not possible.

Thanks for the reply BirdieMod. I will try with variable frequency and will post the results soon.
Not variable frequency, DTMF, Dual Tone Multi Frequency.
I have seen plans for one of those somewhere, but can find them now.

It seems the ird wants to connect and just not a dialtone with newer firmware now.
555 is a single timer, Thus one freq only, To make 2 would need a 556 or two 555's.
A little digging into the code and a ppv spending credit limit is part of it, 50 or 60 bucks seem to be most common.
