Well looks like a have a problemo with my NEW 508

Well I got my 508 and 7100 about 2 weeks ago , been using my 7100 since then Haven't used the 508 yet , A little info first It is a brand new JVC 508 that came with the dish & dishpro twin lnb , in the origanlbox , & the the orginal wrapping on rec w smart card #'s and rec info still factory sealed, Ok It does not have a bottom jtag but it does have a top one , It came with a Rom 10 that is at rev Ab something another ( which I know is virgin ) and the rec soft ware is at p 063 , okay I just pulled the cover off to jtag it and decided to look at the chips to make sure they worth both DT's ( I assumed that they were since it came with a rom 10 from factory ) However upon looking at both there both the frakin GT chips, So I guess the only way to jtag this bitch is a vid mod right ? but what about using a rom 10 without doing this ( I plan on using a rom 10 from one of my sub rec , instead of streamlocking a perfectly good rom 10 ) anyways what Im asking I guess is I will have to vid mod to save flas info right , what about getting my boxkeys? Is it common for 508 thAT ARE BRAND NEW , NOT REMANED W BLUE ROM'S TO COM W/ GT CHIPS.

I have the same 508 with rev a1b rom10 card. Read card in nagra and got boxkeys but I want to back up the proms (DCKD) . I got DTs . I would like to kow how to jtag this 508 (see attached pic). Is that the Ejtag?

You only need to do a Vid Mod to remove protection from chip so you are able to run a Rom 2,3,10,11 card IF it had previously been run with a Yellow ( or Purple ) card.

So if Rom 10 is all it ever has seen install Jtag and pullkeys ( unless you somehow have them already) install a lock and test away.

Okay I read and saved flash 1 & 2 & the eeprom bin, and got box keys , but I was wondering is the Subbed card from one of my sub rec that I'm going to be using ( gonna have dish switch them over ) going to change the box keys that I am getting know or will it put those box keys on the subbed card once I switch it over , Also If I ever need to erase or flash the tsop will I still need to do a vid Mod ? or since it came with a Blue rom originally will it let me write to the flash 2 ? Is there any way to check to see that I am able to Flash tsop2 without actually haveing to erase or screw anything up ( I just curious if there is a way to tell the you will be able to write to flash 2 without actually doing it) And if it is write protected does that mean I will see errors when trying to go into flash programing on jkeys ( you know the step where it tells u to turn recevier off and back on and click OK in 3 seconds) Basically is the flashg 2 still write protected even though it came with a blue rom 10 or Is that only for ones that cane with yellow rom 10X . Sorry I'm kinda confused about what the vid mod is for and isn't for with these rec, would like to avoid it if possible , if not thats okay too.

You can't really test to see if you are going to have a bad read or write of a tsop.
Even on an Ird you have played with a million times you may run into a time that it errors for some reason. It is a science not and EXACT Science lol.
Stuff happens.
As far as can you put it back the way it was , yes.
Vid mod is to allow for Rom cards less than 102's to be run.
Once vidmod is done you can swap back and forth to a yellow or purple card and Rom 2-11 np at all.
SO in short.... Vidmod has nothing to do with reading or erasing a tsop to restream or whatever.

Vid mod is for one purpose, to unlock the locked sector of the flash chip.
That being done, it allows you to write to or erase, all or part of, that particular sector.

The need for the mod is totally dependent on the chip type. DT chips will erase without any mods, GT chips won't.

What good is a virgin ROM 10 if you don't use it.....get all the use out of it that you can, while you still can.

GT chips yes will need the vidmod even if came with rom 10.
Read & save the "virgin" Rom 10 and then you can always return it to that virgin state.

If it came from the factory with a blue card, then the vid mod would only be needed to modify the flashes, otherwise the blue card, or MC will work fine without the mod.
