Obviously the 501 PVR,,,
smokeyman has a good point. it's pretty easy to find these things at yard sales, flea markets, friends storage, etc. The best one is the one you can pick up for next to nothing. However, there are some models that are virtually useless these days. They are the 1x00,2x00,3x00 models. The card may be a rom2 though and that's a good card. A complete list of what models you can test with is at bellexpress.vu under heading 'receivers and dishes'.
I wrote my model numbers in a way that was not accurate. I meant models 1000, 2000, 3000, 3200, 2300, etc. Models 2700,2800,3700,3800,3900 are all fine to test with. I knew what I meant to say but my explanation was misleading. Hope I didn't confuse too many folks. Your a lot better off to run a model that has a jtag port.

jt,
what makes the 1000 useless?
i am running 2 of them just fine with rom 10.
3700 & 3900 rom 10's are working fine

1-No stream update if your ever hit.
2-Images with current firmware very hard to find.
3-No jtag port so writing images requires special equipment and/or the removal of the tsop all together to perform ECM repair or firmware updates.
4-These models suck in terms of memory and features.
I said virtually useless, not that they were unusable. Your better off using any of the models that have a jtag port especially if your new to the hobby.

Ya J.t., You're Right, They Are Shit.
Takes Forever To Get A Picture On The Screen When You Change Channels. I Got A 310 Coming. Bought It From E-bay. Unfortunately It's A 310.13 (althoughit Does Have A Jtag Port - Yes Thisone Does), But Have To Put In A Vid Mod. Didn't Know Until The Guy E-mailed Me.
Oh Well. Thnaks For The Info/
