I have a 501 that receives no signal on any sat and on any transponder. A friend of mine was actually using it and he's not sure if it got hit by lightning or not. His big screen in another room did get hit. I had this type of problem with a 3800 some time ago. I took the cover off and blew it out with compressed air. It was working fine afterwards. I tried it with the 501 but no luck. Any ideas?

The 501/508/510 PVR's are very easy to check power supply voltages on, the connector that goes betwen boards is clearly marked to the voltage levels that should be present, check that first and see where you are.

I'll take a look at it. Thanks.

This appears to be a very common problem with the 501s. It seems that the heat from the hard drive losens some of the soldering points. This is one of the most detailed posts I could find for you ... apparently it needs a bit of work, so before you engage on any of this, try to test your connection with another reciever and see if you get proper signal.

Hope it helps and good luck
