how long should A card be off the stream before used to open?

just get someone to read the card for you

hopefully it will be open

but if not you can pop everything except rev23

can you tell what rev it is by looking at the card?

Put the card in the receiver without the satalite cable hooked to it and go to system info, using the remote push the menu button then push buttons 6,1,3, one right after the other and the system info will come up. When it does look at the green #s and it will tell you the REV of the card.
