How long do i make my JTAG?

hey im building my jtag right now but b4 i solder it to the ird i was wondering what the correct length the cable should be... dont want it too long cuz loss of signal but not too short cuz the ird wont fit behind the computer.. was thinking 3 feet my work.. any suggestions?? thanks a lot

If it's a buffered jtag 3 feet may work.

If it's a simple jtag try to keep it to 16 inches.

Ideally, even with a buffered jtag you want to keep it less than a foot in length. Shorter is better even though you can get away with longer. Move your computer out from the wall or connect to parallel port with a 3' long 25 pin through cable.
