1) I am looking at getting a PRV510. I have done a few 301.13's and have searched through the forms but have not found a reliable guide only conflicting answers.

2) Is this receiver like a TIVO or Just a PVR? Do I need and service or more hacking to get this to work?

PS what other receivers have 5.1 Digital outputs..

There are a lot of conflicting posts on the 510, because a lot of people are trying their own mods and everyone seems to have similiar but yet different problems.
I have done several and each presented it's own conditions, each has work arounds to get it going. I recently had one refuse to work with a flash that I used on several others, you just have to be prepared to go the distance, reflash a few times and it will come around.

A 510 has no jtag port, so you'll have to solder to the board, a vid mod is nescessary as the GT chips are locked. Screw up with the vid mod and either the flash chips or the tsop is toast.

Then there is the harddrive issue, it must be resized to 80 gig and zeroed out, no biggie but must be done. Then the harddrive has to be remarried to the receiver, which in itself can be a challenge, but many have done it successfully.

Hi Skinerd, quick question. Why is it necessary to downsize the harddrive?
I have a virgin unit and planning to stream update and do the vidmod. Would the 120G cause a problem when doing this? One other Question. Is there a digilock guide for the 510?
Thanks for your quick reply.

Downsizing is nescessary cause the 120 requires a yellow card to function. I don't know why and having read a lot on it, I still don't know why, exactly, it looks for the yellow card, but it does. You would think that a software edit would bypass that check, unless it's something in the stream. A 510 resized to 80 gig will report as a 508.

For all 501/508/510's the oddcircuits ar105c is recommended, not just by me either, and there is a good install guide at their site for it.

There may be a way to get the 510 to work with a 120 gig, but no-one has figured it out, then again maybe it has been determined that there is no way possible.
