You can use a cable but sometimes not the regular one, I can't remember right now. I believe I couldn't get it to work with a ordinary printer cable, had to get a straight through cable. But I found that it's easiest to plug the programmer directly into the port of the PC. Try that first.

i hooked up my mc programmer to my printer port. i tried programming it, but it says card not detected. i did whatever it ask me to do. i reinsert the card, i checked to make sure that cable was hooked up to my printer port, and still nuthin. then i read somewhere that you cant use a cable. what kind of wire do i need? any information would help.plug programmer directly to printer port.
