Just wondering if someone could shed a little light on how long the FTA receivers (slot-less) are suppose to last before they become extinct? I've read in a few threads that they have a 'limited lifetime' - but noone has said when & why. Are they talking about when the Nagra2 gets phased in?

Thanks

Who knows....
The actual date as I understand it that Nagra2 will be in full effect is by 9/2005. That does not mean that Charlie will not begin to cut over to Nagra2 before that. The only real person who knows is Charlie and he is not talking.

Yeah,... that's what I've read as well. But is that when they expect the FTA receivers to be pretty much useless (when they switch to the Nagra2 stream)? If the Nagra2 is hacked, wouldn't they be able to create a firmware for the FTA that would decode the Nagra2 stream as well?

even if we are not able to get dishnet in the future, there are 20-30 other satellites in the sky up for grabs,,I doubt that the FTA receivers will ever become totally useless

True,... I guess I'm just more concerned about the future of BEV or Dish...
