View Full Version : LNB problem?

For a while I thought I needed a bigger dish as the east channels stopped coming in on 6000.
I got my fixed 7100 up and started to take guides..etc.. but there was a prob. When I did the switch test, there was an error detected. I have a dish 500 with a single, dual lnbf. On the switch test, the 119 even has an X in it and says problem detected.

Now since there is no switch on the 119/110 dish 500 (there is one on the 6000 side because I have a second dish for HD-sw21), does this point to a lnbf problem, or would spotbeams also cause this error?

have you tried running the test again with the 7100? Sometimes it misses the switch the first time. Did your dish somehow move? You have the two single lnb's? You are getting 110 correct? Simply switch the 110 lnb over to the 119 and see if you get signal, if you do then you know it is a lnb. Switches can go bad as well. Hook the sat cable directly to the 119 lnb skipping the switch and see if you have signal. This will rule out the switch being bad.

Thanks for the reply.
Should have been clearer... I have the D500 with the 2-in-1 lnb, not seperate. To the 7100 one cable runs out from one side of the assembly. To the 6000, one line comes off the other side of the assembly and into an sw-21 tha also has a feed from the second dish with single lnb.

So to the 7100, there is only one line, from one side of the lnb assembly with no switches.
The 6000 uses the other side, but I am missing many 119 channels on that receiver as well, so I guess I answered my own question...dish alignment or just too weak a signal.. I didn't think it would show up as an error, or that just the evens of 119 would be effected and not the odds with a weak signal....

stange things happen with weak signal. Now I have a quad lnb (similiar to yours but with four outputs instead of two) Now the first output will not pick up the even transponders on the 119, so it may be a lnb problem, my other three ouputs (by ouput I mean cable connection, I guess it really is a input) lol anyway, the other three work just fine. So it may be the lnb. What is your signal on other transponders you do get?

119 and 110 show 60. But any of the odd 119 show zero, or flash up to 10 or so. Also it shows 61.5 as a signal, but says 'wrong satellite - 119' on that one.

that is a pretty weak signal, you can't fine tune it in to get up in the 90's? I am not sure where you are located, if that is all you can get, then that is all you can get. The odd transponder on the 119 reminds me of my lnb doing that, so it may be a bad lnb, but your weak signal bothers me as well, Signal fluctuates between transponders alot, I have a 125 on one transponder but it will drop into the 60's on another.

I'll do a check on my 6000 and see if it has the same thing...that should eliminate, or incriminate the lnb.

yeah, you should tune both dishes to get a better signal than that since you have a single dish pointing at one sat not trying to get both. one is at the 119 and the other is on the 110 right. you mentioned the 61.5 thats why i asked.
and use transponders 11 or 12 to tune dish pointing signal
make sure your receivers have current software too.

Well up in Canada and I don't remember if ever got much better. The 6000 shows reception the same, but does not list any problem...just zero on some of the odd transponders on 119.

119 and 110 are both picked up in a single Dish500. 148 is picked up on a single dish, but that is only for the 6000. So I can't just aim one better without affecting the other on the dish500.
I will try the transponders you mention to tune. Both receivers have newest updates.

ok, let's see. the lnb on your dish 500 is the big block kind with the switch built into it and with 2 outputs and has the two lnb eyes in one unit right?
Is it a dish legacy lnbf or a dish pro lnbf, dish pro will usually have a black DP logo on back of it?
also is the sw21 a regular sw21 or is it the sw21X style?

I think you need a sw21-x to combine those 2 dishes, since your 500 has a sw21 already built in.
