As far as the receiver goes, you need to erase SA3 in Flash1 in Jkeys with the use of a jtag and put it into the dish stream. It will download the latest software fromdish and be a dish receiver.

That's all? I thought that it was more complex.

Be sure to read and save the full flash for future repair. Also, erase in flash 1 only, not flash 2.

Also there is a provider conversion guide out there. Dudemans316 provider conversion guide. You may have to search a couple of forums to find it. Goes through everything in great detail for almost every model of receiver.

At this addie you will find that guide under tsop and eeprom guides.
http://www.kickinchicken.org/files/files.php?page=Dish

Apparently you have to register first to use the files.

I may be stupid but what you have seen as responses so far is somewhat oversimplified. The mechanism for testing channels on DISH needs to be determined ie magic card Atmeg cards, etc. Then there is getting a satellite dish such as the DISHPro. The 3100 you have has two TSOPs which need to be massaged to work with DISH. You will need to read information of that IRD to enter into the software to program the cards you are using. Since you are going from BEV to DISH, the card that was used for BEV will need to be modified to work with DISH. The good news is that the 3100 is great on storing your channels and can work with a legacy (old) antenna system or the newer DISH antenna types such as DISHPRO. This is what I have and it allows me the best flexibility in terms of connecting other IRDs to it and the cable lengths.
The steps I used to get to finding answers to the main question you ask, are;

1.Read, ...read... read-all info available in the forum like this and search with key words for answers. There are various newbie files and manuals available and the "How to"s are also good at giving you a sense of understanding. I had to go back numerous times to get a better grasp of the methodology. Sometimes we assume a basic understanding of why we do something but I like to know why we are doing this.
2. Ask questions, ask questions, ask questions- these forums are great at help for testers like ourselves.
3. Prepare an answer page (WORD-my word processing choice)with such info as you don't need to VID Mod the 3100, magnetic declination, your lat and long, azimuth, altitude, boxkeys etc
It comes in handy when so much information is present- you can't remember everything!
4. Consider the TSOP lock device to give better protection against ECMs-are you any good at soldering- you had better if you want to start modify this IRD's board!
5. Get hardware to EJTAGing your IRD. I used an EJTAG method as there is no opening at the bottom of this IRD cover but you can remove the cover and access from the top. Look for EJTAG hardware to do this.
6. Determine from all the reading and answers the method to test the IRD. Magic cards show least risk of failure. Your choice may be based on friends/ cost/availability
7. Purchase an antenna system to meet your needs- I got a DISH Pro with four receiver outputs.
8. When you have the hardware installed/purchase, I suggest you download the latest software that is available on the sat links. Jkeys software is essential as the communications program between the computer and the IRD. Depending on your approach to testing, there are other software products out there that have been testing. Read/ ask
9. It is highly likely that you will need an internet connection to get the latest info on the satellite's coding information. The software you use will need this info before it can work. I assume since you are using this forum that will not be a problem!
10. Finding the satellite-web site available to get you starting in the right direction. Use transponder 11 to get the correct signal.
11. I have given you the general steps to get you started. It is a focused project for anyone. Now you must integrate all that you have learned. Details are just as important and it is a good idea to layout a computer file location to set up the various files on general information and the data you will be storing which will allow you to update your testing configuration and correct an problems facing you as you continue your quest.

Good luck with the testing!!

Blink, As far as what you asked, that is, the conversion of the IRD to dish. GO to Mili's site www.bellexpress.vu and go to the how-to list on the left. Select j-tag, on that screen you will find all you need laid out nicely.
Since you already have a Magic card, from that same how-to list choose Magic, on that page it details nicely how to use it in different modes.
Good luck.

Looked at your response and noticed that mili's vip downloads requires an email address not just dudeman. Non members will need to join unless your email address is made known. Thanks anyway for the offer.

Try loading all of these into one folder called DudeMan. Only contains files pertinent to model 301(3100), will try to add rest.
Thats it all, hope it works this way.
