Just got a toshiba a45 laptop. It does not have a serial port so I bought an adapter that goes on the 25 pin printer port. The problem is that it still can't read com 1.The adapter is 25 pin printer on one side and 9 pin serial on the other.I then plugged the serial cable in to my programmer and no go.Still can't read com1.Does anyone know how I can go into the control panel and change the printer port to a com port, so that it will allow me to use my programmer?????Thanks.

Just because you use a parallel to serial adapter doesn't mean that your parallel port is now a serial port. You have a parallel port with a serial port (DB9) interface. What software are you trying to run?

Why won't some programs run? Will Niagra 4.1 and winex 5.0 run on yours?
Nagra and winwx yes... just when a tried to flah my loader it's like the program doesn't see the loader because of the usb to serial cable

I have a similar probrem my poc. does not detect the programer...I have the programer pluged to the serialport on my pc and the 9 v battery on it..
when I run nagraedit 4.0 I get this error:
Opening of COM1 was successful
Reset failed
Error reseting card, ATR string invalid
Closing of COM1 was successful
I was wondering if there is any other software to ldownload besides nagraedit in order for it to work..or do i have to go in to the bios or change something ?
Thanks in advance

That is not a computer or programmer problem. It is your card.It is looped,if it is giving you that reading in Niagra 4.1.
mine says that if I do not have a card stuck in good or the power plugged up so it may not be looped.
Does your green light on the programer stay on when card is in, That would mean looped also.

...when I conect the programer to the serial port and with the battery on (new), non of the lights come on.., its like the com1 does not comunicate with the programer....I try it on another computer and it does the same reading error..
I will try a diferent card...perhaps it is looped
anyone knows of any problems with xp pro using this programs (niagraedit 4.0) and Jkeys.
because when I plug my buffered jtag to the IRD and run the JKEYS program. it does nothing ...I was thinking that was something wrong with my paralelport and serial port...
your ports could be disabled in the bios,
but if your getting the same symptoms on your programer on two computers then you have power problems or looped card like he said.
I have had no trouble running nagedit or jkeys in xp.

I had a simular problem turned out radio shack serial is a null cable.

i also tried straight through pin 1 to pin 1 ,ETC..home made but that didn't work.

this is the programmer I have the dual iso programer from millis store.link
https://dssftp.com/xcart/customer/product.php?productid=16139&cat=252&page=1
but when I plug the serial cable and the battery on none of the light come on..
can it be the case that the dual iso programmer is burned and that it just does not work?

This may sound dumb but when you bring nag 4.1 up have you gone into tools and then options then communications and tried another port besides com 1 just a suggestion
