Where can I read about the basics of software locking???

What is required?? Is it just and edit and TSOP re-write?? Is it reliable?? I have a D*SH 3800. Will it work with my receiver???

Get Flashedit 2.0a-1 from dssftp.com

read your TSOP

Open up saved TSOP with Flashedit

Click on write softlock.

Save as personal dump

Write saved bin back to receiver.

I've tested it on a 301, 2700, and 3900. Let them get hit
several times and it worked without a hitch. I think it works
with about any model.

The 301 was a 010 model. I let it upgrade to P189 then installed the soft lock. Worked great even with updated firmware that has the TSOP lock detect software.

When I write this back to the reciever, do I need to write it to the EEPROM??? I have read my TSOP and written the soft lock to the bin file. What specifically do I need to do when I write it to the reciever?

Thanks for the help

Roger this is real old info. 2003 as a matter of fact. As far as I know the software lock no longer works on any reveiver. Charlie has had a hit for it for ages now.

You now need a hardware lock to protect the receiver TSOP.

Mili sells them at his store. Need a bit of experience with soldering to install but it's
not too hard. And a inexpensive soldering iron from radio shack will do the job.

Sorry t160hq... I have to disagree.

Softlocks are working, that's why you get a 153 error when Charlie's trying to write to your TSOP... and can't. It just doesn't work like the autoreset digital locks.

Currently softlocks are saving alot of us from having to redo our TSOP!

No apology necessary FreeTVAddict. Had no idea they were still working. Is it a new version of an old trick or is the old trick currently working with new firmware?

TIA for any info on my favorite beat em with software trick.

I'm using FlashEdit 2, which I'm not quite sure if it's the latest or not.

It's possible the softlocks are not working for everyone or they're applying it wrong. When it comes to the noobs, I tend to think the latter. No offense to the noobs!

I appreciate all of the help. Two more things

1) What is the correct method of applying the software lock, once you have made a bin file in flash edit

2) I have ordered a digital lock as was suggested by t160hq, is there a diagram or how to that will show me exactly where to attach the hardware lock to my 3900
