I have a dish 311 ird, a dvd recorder w/ component output and a hdtv monitor. When I record or monitor a program thru my dvd to my monitor component input, is this info HD if it's being sent in HD? I think what I'm asking is will the 311 pass the HD info to the dvd and will the dvd process it so I can watch HD thru a 311?

If you are subbed HD user, I can't tell you, but probably not, as your 311 won't even 'see' the HD channels and their signal.
If you are not subbed, it is a moot point. We no longer can get HD as it went to a Nagra2 card only.

No the 311 will not. would need a 6000, 811 or 921 subbed to get hd with dish network.
And even then not sure if going into your dvd then out to hd set would be recommended.
Read your dvd recorder manual, it should say what it output in hd. Most dvd players or recorders will only output like 480p which is kinda low def hi def. not as good as regular hd like 720p or 1080i. I think there maybe some of the newer ones like samsung that may output in 720p.

A lot of channels like ESPN are transmittinmg HD now. These are the channels I was refering to not necessarily the HD channels. Will the 311 pass this info onto the HD processor in the dvd? The output of my dvd is 720.

your 311 output is 480i (standard definition), your 311 is a standard definition only ird, and your dvd recorder will only see that from that ird. like dssturbo said in order for you to record hd content in either 1080i or 720p you will need a subbed model 6000, 811, or 921. charlies hd content can only be seen with hd ird's. the espn channel you are recieving with your ird is standard definition only and nothing more, that's why espn hd is on a seperate channel, the bandwith to have both standard definition and hd on the same channel is not capable
