Hi, I personally just bought a 501 from maxwaves.com off of ebay. It was a refurb unit and it happened to have dual DT chips(yeeah) it was in pristine condition. Personally I would try using a magic card since it can emulate either one, along with a variety of others. I just got one of those too, and my only complaint was that I had to put a business card on top of it to get the programmer to recognize it, after that though, it was great.

Does the dish 501 pvr have jtag ports. can you use rom 3 or 10 cards on them. I am looking to purchase units off ebay. Which units should stay clear of. I did a search and it seems that the 501 is compatable. If anyone knows a reason i should not try using a rom 3 or 10 card for testing please let me know.
if you know of a post i missed concering this please feel free to educate me.
thks
I got mine from ebay; it also came with both DT chips, brand new .. it was a real find. Didn't have to do anything else to make it work.
The thing is to make sure it comes with the DT chips. If it doesn't and it comes with the GT's instead, then you'll have to do a vidmod to the IRD in order for it to be compatible with the MC
