My PVR 501 (I just got it a few days back) cannot download the guide for some reason. It just stays there with the progress bar with no progress trying to download my outdated hard drive information.

I'm using a ROM10 card. My Sys info is perfect as per all the posts out here and nothing seems out of whack. For some reason, I can surf all the channels and see what is playing but I'm getting no picture and no sound. If I leave it on the Dish 500 what's on channel. The picture is all pixelated and you can't make anything out of it. And, the picture is just a snapshot and it updates every 10 minutes of so. Weird.

I've got a feeling it could be a hardware issue with my PVR. Its as if it cannot de-scramble the satellite signal. I have only 1 dish pointing to 110 with great signal strength around 100.

I have programmed FLASH2 many times and I've probably read all the forums out there. I'm hoping that someone has seen this problem before and can help me.

Some important info:

PVR501 with 2 DT chips so no vid mod is required. I used a quad mode buffered JTAG with a jumper. I can get in and out of flash programming and eeprom programming. My sticker states that its DCED build but I have used DCEA and DCFA as they work with DCED receivers as per all forum threads.

I've got no clue and out of all options. If someone can help me, I would appreciate this.

Thanks guys!

Sounds like corrupt flash,m but have addressed that, so then I would suspect the decoder chip, or the conextant tuner chip.

How would I be able to tell? I thought conextant tuner chip is just the tuner and it does not control the video per say. Any clue who can fix this in the Toronto area?

thanks for reply dude!

Pixelization occurs during rain fade because the signal strength gets very weak, same thing happens with a bad tuner chip or decoder chip.
I have no idea who can help you with that in your area.

I heard you're the master at fixing these 501s. Please let me know if you can help me revive this box. I can send it to you if you can let me know the cost. I'm kinda hurtin but if the value is good, I 'd like to get this piece of crap working.

Thanks man!

Here is the image of the screen right after the receiver takes the p223 update:

Please let me know if anyone has seen this problem before with 501/508/510 or any other receiver?

Thanks!
