Hi all,

I currently have 2 satellite dishes pointing at 119 and 61.5, using a sw21. I'm using a 2800 receiver. I'm interested in picking up sat 121. I know that if I buy a superdish then my current equipment will become useless (including the receiver). I'm trying to minimize the cost of any needed equipment by making use of my current equipment. If I instead buy a 33 inch dish with ku or FSS LNB, will I be able to connect it to my existing dish pointed to the 119 thus receiving both birds? If so, will a switch 21 do? Will my 2800 also work with these 2 satellites connected?

Greatly appreciate your help

I don`t have a 2800, but as long as it lists 121 as an available sat, I believe it does, then it will work using the sw21 and a 30" ku dish. The only problem will be if you open up too many channels, they will drop off because of the limited memory of a 2800.

I've got a 2800 running 61.5,110,119 and 121 with rom 10 that is able to handle all the channels pretty well. The only problem is sometimes the guide only lists 1-2 hours ahead, But it's working good otherwise.

Thanks for all for the replies. What exactly should I look for when buying a 33inch dish, in order to receive the 121 bird? I'm being as cautious as possible because I don't want to be scammed.

Thank you.

any good channels on the 121? I personally didn't notice much on the 61.5. It might just be the tier I created.

birdiemod , are you using a superdish to pick up the 121 sat or a 33" dish with a Ku lnbf .

Any .75 meter (30") or larger dish with standard KU lnb will work. I use 2 FTA style dishes for 121 and 105. The 121 sat has all the foreign programming and a bunch of locals. The 105 has mainly more locals, but they have just launched a new 105 and the rumor is that new HD will be on it. Of course new HD won`t be much good to testers since it would be Nag2 I presume. One caution - these FTA dishes and lnbs work with legacy equipment fine, but NOT dishpro. With dishpro you will have a problem getting both vertical and horizontal TPs because of the power output.

First and foremost I would like to thank you all for your continuing help. Would the dish found in the site below be good enough to receive 121?

Thank you.

Yes, that dish would be fine assuming you are in US or southern Canada. One thing to remember, the KU sats are considerably weaker than the dbs sats. While the signal on 119 most likely is near 100, the 121 may only be in the 60`s, so it might take a bit more work to find the sat. This is based on my location in AZ so your situation could be different. Good luck.

whould this dish on e-bay work to retrieve satellite 121?
http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=32844&item=5720920953&rd=1&ssPageName=WD1V

Yes, that dish would work. Can`t help with aiming from your area, but try a search here for "dish pointing" or something similar. I believe I have seen some dish pointing sites listed in Mili`s forum somewhere. Maybe someone else can help more.

I've asked the question above but people post their questions below mine and then mine get forgotten. Anyway, would the dish found in the site below be good enough to receive 121?

So when I'm looking for a 33 inch dish to receive the 121 satellite, should I just ask if the dish comes equipped with a standard KU lnb? Is there a specific feature that I should look for in a Ku lnb? Is there anything else I should look for, output frequency, input frequency etc? Thanks in advance.

You will be set with either of the dishes mentioned above. There is nothing special about the KU lnb and everything will work fine as long as your receiver is a legacy and has the 121 listed as a sat on the installation page (6-1-1).

What's considered a legacy receiver? I have a 2800, is that a legacy receiver? BTW, the 121 is listed as a sat on the installation page.

Simple answer is four digit receivers (2800) are legacy and 3 digit (301) are dishpro. You are set to go. Good luck

No, the superdish KU lnb is dishpro. It is a special lnb made for DN to be dishpro compatable.

If I ever decide to buy a 501/508 pvr, will I be able to use it to watch the programming on my 3 dishes (110, 119, 121), assuming that I do not have a super dish?

BirdieMod: I have a DISH 500 with 2 Dual Legacy LNBs run thru a Y-connector to 2 Receivers using 2 SW21. I am using a 301.13 but can switch to 2700, 2800, 3000 or 4500 whichever is best.

I don't know what's on 61.5 but for sure I want to add 121 to the 119 and 110 so I can get the 5 or so Chinese channels that I understand are on he 121.

Could you please describe what DISH setup you are using including which SWITCHES and the connections? Thanks a bunch.

If I ever decide to buy a 501/508 pvr instead of using my 2800, will I be able to use it to watch the programming on my 3 dishes (110, 119, 121), assuming that I do not have a super dish? That is, I catch the 121 via a 33 inch FTA dish and connect to my other 2 dishes via sw21/sw21X. Will such a setup connection be compatible if I decide to buy a 501/508 pvr?

Greatly appreciate it!
