I have a 4900 CCBA at firmware P178. The latest firmware rev is 217. I disabled the auto update in the menu until I get the dish aimed. Once it's aimed, I'll switch it to auto update. Is it worth it to backup the TSOP at rev 178 or should I wait until it's updated?

Another quick question about Flashedit...... There's a 4900 CCJA rev 217 in the file downloads. Would it work if I put my receiver info into it and changed the CCJA to CCBA? I've read there's conflicting info about whether the first 2 or 3 characters need to be the same.

Thanks

Keep the P178 software. You never know when you may need it. I realize its very old firmware, but could still be handy if your updated software corrupts. This way, you always have a match for your receiver for future repairs. I also back-up with every firmware change.

I second that, Do a full tsop and eeprom save first and then again after it updates.

Should this be done with virgin, out of the box firmware also, or just save after streamed update?

I save every version I can, never know when or why you might need it, and all it takes is a save mem with jkeys and a few minutes it's done.
